Responsibilities

Research Strategy and Vision:

  • Develop and articulate a clear, strategic vision for research at the university, aligning with the institution's overall mission and goals.

  • Foster an environment that supports research excellence, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Research Infrastructure and Support:

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of state-of-the-art research facilities and infrastructure to support high-quality research activities.

  • Ensure researchers have access to necessary resources, including laboratories, equipment, and research support services.

Funding and Grants Management:

  • Lead efforts to secure external funding for research projects through grants, contracts, and partnerships with government agencies, industry, and philanthropic organizations.

  • Oversee grant administration processes to ensure compliance with funding requirements and ethical standards.

Research Policies and Compliance:

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that govern research activities, ensuring compliance with national and international regulations and ethical standards.

  • Oversee the institution's research integrity and compliance functions, including human subjects research, animal care and use, biosafety, and conflict of interest.

Faculty Development and Support:

  • Support faculty in their research endeavors by providing opportunities for professional development, mentorship, and collaboration.

  • Recognize and celebrate research achievements within the university community.

Student Research Opportunities:

  • Promote and facilitate research opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students, integrating research experiences into the curriculum where possible.

  • Encourage student participation in conferences, symposia, and research publications.

Collaboration and Partnerships:

  • Foster collaborative research partnerships with other academic institutions, government agencies, industry, and community organizations both locally and internationally.

  • Serve as a key liaison between the university and external stakeholders in matters related to research.

Innovation and Commercialization:

  • Encourage the translation of research findings into practical applications, including patents, licenses, and start-up companies.

  • Oversee technology transfer and intellectual property management to ensure that research innovations benefit society and contribute to economic development.

Research Culture and Community Engagement:

  • Cultivate a vibrant research culture that attracts top-tier researchers and students to the university.

  • Promote the dissemination of research findings to the broader community, demonstrating the impact of the university's research on society.

Assessment and Reporting:

  • Monitor and assess the quality, impact, and effectiveness of the university's research activities.
