2024/2025

Gulf Medical University (GMU) continues to uphold its commitment to the United Nations

Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG 3) Good Health and Wellbeing through innovative

academic initiatives, community partnerships, and health awareness campaigns. Throughout AY 2024–2025, GMU strengthened its role as a regional leader in promoting wellness, preventive healthcare, and public health education by engaging students, faculty, and the wider community in meaningful health-related activities.


Health Screening and Preventive Care Programs

Medical Laboratory Professionals Week Celebration (College of Health Sciences)

GMU’s BSc. MLS students commemorated Medical Laboratory Professionals Week by

organizing awareness activities highlighting the importance of diagnostic laboratory science in promoting health and safety. The event at Gulf Medical University enhanced

understanding of laboratory roles in disease detection and prevention. Link



First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Workshop

In collaboration with Ajman Private School, BSc-MLS students conducted a workshop on

first aid and CPR to equip teachers and students with essential life-saving skills. The activity

strengthened community preparedness for health emergencies. LINK



Public Health Awareness Campaigns

World Mental Health Day – “Mental Health at Work” (College of Medicine)

GMU faculty and students hosted a seminar themed Mental Health at Work, emphasizing

the importance of psychological well-being, early intervention, and mental health promotion in professional settings.

World Heart Day – “The Rhythm of Your Heart” (College of Medicine)

The College of Medicine organized an awareness drive focusing on cardiovascular health

and lifestyle modifications. The initiative educated the community on risk reduction through

nutrition, exercise, and early screening.

World Pneumonia Day – “Championing the Fight Against Pneumonia”

A public health campaign was conducted by GMU’s medical faculty to raise awareness

about pneumonia prevention, especially among children and the elderly. Students

participated in screening and educational activities to advocate for vaccination and hygiene practices.

Breast Cancer Awareness – “Join the Fight, Save a Life”

The College of Medicine led a breast cancer awareness program to educate participants on early detection and screening techniques. The event reinforced GMU’s longstanding

advocacy for women’s health and early intervention.

World Cancer Day – “United by Unique”

Held at Gulf Medical University, this campaign brought together students and faculty to

highlight the importance of cancer prevention and research. Educational booths and

discussions encouraged lifestyle changes for cancer risk reduction. Link




Health Promotion and Community Outreach

GMU College of Pharmacy Webinar on Opioid Crisis

The College of Pharmacy hosted an insightful webinar titled “Opioid Crisis: Emerging Public

Health Challenge”, led by 5th-year APPE students and faculty. The event aimed to raise

awareness about substance abuse, addiction management, and community-level prevention strategies. Link


Volunteer Club – “We Can” Project (Student Affairs)

As part of GMU’s ongoing student-led outreach, the “We Can” Project engaged volunteers in organizing wellness and social responsibility activities under the office of Student Affairs,

reinforcing a culture of empathy and service. Link


Educational Engagement & International Collaboration

Sahmyook University Visit to GMU (Student Affairs)

GMU hosted a delegation from Sahmyook University, fostering academic collaboration and

exchange of ideas on student wellness, public health programs, and global learning
