Gulf medical University recognizes the pivotal role that quality education plays in transforming individuals, communities, and societies at large. Through a range of innovative programs, state-of-the-art facilities, and dedicated faculty, GMU strive to provide a nurturing environment that empowers our students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to excel in the dynamic field of healthcare. By aligning efforts with SDG 4, GMU aim to contribute to a future where accessible, inclusive, and high-quality education is a reality for all.
This report seeks to illuminate the commendable efforts of GMU in advancing SDG 4 in AY (2024-2025), It is reflected in its vision, mission, and mandate (Link). GMU has been progressing its endeavors for achieving SDG 4 including:

1.Graduate Students
GMU has produced graduates under different disciplines of healthcare. Our graduates are working nationally and internationally to address the needs and serve the healthcare community.
Figure I.1 shows the GMU Graduates since inception under different disciplines and this is a good sign for the Quality Education
In the current academic year, a total of 622 students have embarked on their journey towards obtaining a degree. Among them, an impressive 367 students represent the first generation in their families to pursue higher education. This significant number of first-generation students reflects a commendable commitment to breaking barriers and achieving academic milestones. It exemplifies a dedication to education that transcends generational boundaries, demonstrating the transformative power of higher learning. These students trailblazing individuals not only pave the way for their own success, but also inspire future generations to aspire for educational excellence

2.Research and Publications
2.1 Thumbay International Research Grant (TIRG) – Advancing Research and Quality Education
Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, celebrated the launch of the inaugural Thumbay International Research Grant (TIRG) during its Annual Research Day on April 15, 2025. Supported by Thumbay Group UAE, this global initiative aims to promote impactful healthcare research through international collaboration and innovation, aligning with SDG 4 – Quality Education.
With an initial funding of AED 3 million, the grant supports pioneering projects in Precision Medicine, Drug Discovery, Cancer Immunology, Population Health, Healthy Aging, Regenerative Medicine, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Health, and Health Professions Education. The total funding will expand to AED 10 million over three years, reflecting GMU’s strong commitment to fostering research excellence.
The event was graced by H.E. Dr. Sheikh Majeed Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, representing H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman. University leaders highlighted that TIRG serves as a powerful catalyst for advancing innovation, strengthening academic capacity, and building global research partnerships, reinforcing GMU’s role as a regional leader in medical education and research.

2.2 Gulf Medical University’s Annual Research
Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, proudly hosted its prestigious Annual Research Day on 15th and 16th April 2025, organized by the Thumbay Research Institute for Precision Medicine (TRIPM) in collaboration with various GMU colleges. The two-day event brought together researchers, faculty, and students from across the university, providing a vibrant platform for innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the celebration of scientific excellence.
With a record 137 student research posters and numerous faculty presentations showcasing cutting-edge studies, this year’s Research Day reflected GMU’s strong commitment to fostering a research-oriented academic culture aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education. The event also featured contributions from PhD scholars and master’s students, who presented their ongoing research, adding academic depth and promoting advanced learning and inquiry within the university community.
2.3 College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University Research Shortlisted in Fifth Women in Research Forum at University of Sharjah
The College of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University (GMU) was proudly represented by Dr. Diana Malaeb at the 5th Women in Research Forum, held at the University of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Dr. Malaeb’s research, entitled “Skincare Routine: Perception, Knowledge, and Practices Among Arab Young Adults,” was shortlisted for presentation at this prestigious forum.
The study investigates how young adults in the Arab region perceive and approach skincare, examining their level of awareness, common routines, and the cultural factors that influence their habits. By shedding light on regional behaviors and practices, the research contributes to a better understanding of public health, wellness, and culturally informed healthcare education.

2.4 International Conference on AI for Social Impact
The Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare, Gulf Medical University, Ajman, in collaboration with Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), University of Delhi, successfully hosted a Two-Day International Conference on “AI for Social Impact: Transforming Business, Healthcare, and Policy for Sustainable Development.”
The event brought together over 60 experts and researchers from 37 international institutions across four continents, creating a dynamic platform for academic exchange and innovation. Discussions and presentations focused on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in addressing global challenges and achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of Education, Healthcare, Policy Making, and Social Good.
The conference featured three technical sessions that explored how AI can be harnessed to advance sustainable development and improve societal well-being. Participants shared insights, case studies, and policy recommendations that highlighted AI’s transformative potential in creating equitable and sustainable solutions.
3. International and National Collaborations
3.1 Gulf Medical University (GMU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ICME Healthcare
On December 12, 2024, the Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare (TCMAIH), Gulf Medical University (GMU), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with I.C.M.E Healthcare, marking the beginning of a strategic collaboration that paves the way for mutual growth, academic–industry partnership, and international engagement.
The MoU focuses on student internships and joint research collaborations. Under this agreement, senior students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management and Economics (BSc. HME) program will have the opportunity to undertake internships at I.C.M.E Healthcare, gaining real-world experience in healthcare management and consultancy. Additionally, the partnership aims to foster joint research projects in areas of healthcare innovation, digital transformation, and management excellence, strengthening GMU’s commitment to SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals.

3.2 Strategic MoU Signed Between the Colleges of Pharmacy at Gulf Medical University and Newgiza University at International Pharmacy Conference
As part of the 3rd International Conference “Innovative Pharmaceutical Horizons: Bridging Science, Education, and Green Practices” held at Newgiza University (NGU), Egypt, a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the College of Pharmacy, Gulf Medical University (GMU), UAE, and the School of Pharmacy, Newgiza University (NGU), Egypt.
This strategic partnership encompasses student exchange programs, joint research initiatives, and co-hosting of academic events, aimed at advancing education, training, and research excellence across both institutions. The collaboration is set to enhance academic mobility, strengthen research output, and expand the regional and global impact of both universities through meaningful academic cooperation.
The signing of this MoU underscores the GMU College of Pharmacy’s commitment to becoming a regional hub of academic excellence, in alignment with GMU’s integrated Academic Health System model. It also builds upon NGU’s strong tradition of international collaboration, particularly through its partnership with University College London (UCL), thereby fostering global engagement and innovation in pharmaceutical education and research.

3.3 Gulf Medical University Signs MoU with Zoom and Receives Award for Innovation in Higher Education
Gulf Medical University (GMU) participated in a key event at GITEX 2024, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Zoom to enhance digital collaboration and drive educational innovation. The ceremony took place on October 17, 2024, at the Zoom Studio during one of the world’s largest technology exhibitions.The MoU was signed in the presence of GMU leadership, including the Chancellor, Vice Chancellor (Academics), and the Director of the Thumbay Institute of AI, marking a significant milestone in GMU’s commitment to digital transformation in higher education.During the event, GMU received recognition from Zoom for its exemplary implementation of Workspace Management Solutions in the higher education sector. This accolade underscores GMU’s proactive adoption of advanced digital tools to enhance learning environments, streamline operations, and strengthen faculty and student engagement, reinforcing the university’s position as a leader in innovative and technology-driven education.

3.4 College of Dentistry, GMU and Thumbay Dental Hospital signed an MOU with BICON Institute FZ L.L.C
· On April 4, 2024, the College of Dentistry (COD), Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Thumbay Dental Hospital (TDH), GMU, a leading multidisciplinary dental care facility, and BICON Institute FZ L.L.C., represented by Dr. Toni Atanasovski, Manager of BICON.
The agreement, represented on behalf of the COD by Prof. Hesham Marei, Dean, and on behalf of TDH by Dr. Danavanthi Bhangera, Medical Director, aims to leverage the advanced clinical infrastructure of Thumbay Dental Hospital to organize short clinical courses on the BICON Implant system. These courses will be conducted in collaboration with the faculty of the College of Dentistry at GMU, promoting hands-on training, clinical skill development, and professional advancement in implant dentistry.
This collaboration strengthens GMU’s commitment to academic excellence, clinical education, and innovative training opportunities, providing students and professionals access to world-class facilities and expertise in dental implantology.

Thumbay Institute of Health Workforce Development (TIHWD) builds on and expand the existing “Centre for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare (CASH)”, “Centre for Continuing Education and Community Outreach (CCE&CO)”, “Centre for Health Professions Education and Research (CHPER)”, “BA Centre for Online Health Professions Education and Training”, “Centre for Interprofessional Education, Research and Practice (IPERP)” and “Centre for Humanitarian Education”. Its main goal is to respond to national, regional and international shortages and the need for a competent health workforce, “Doctors, Pharmacist, Dentist, Nurses, Paramedics and All Allied Health”. GMU colleges and TIHWD with its centers' coordinate to design, develop and offer tailored healthcare programs to meet the needs of the healthcare professions market.

5.Workshops
5.1 Faculty Development Workshop: Research Grants
The College of Nursing, Gulf Medical University, organized a Faculty Development Workshop on Research Grants on November 12, 2024, featuring Dr. Maryann Washington as the keynote speaker. The workshop aimed to strengthen the research capacity of faculty members by providing practical guidance on developing high-quality research proposals.
The key objectives of the session were to:
Equip participants with the skills to develop and structure a research proposal in the standard academic format.
Enhance understanding of the essential elements of a strong proposal, including clarity, relevance, and feasibility.
Emphasize strategies for aligning proposals with the priorities and expectations of research funding agencies.

7.Community Events
Gulf Medical University Celebrates a Record-Breaking MASE 2024 with 1,400 Exhibits from 900 UAE Schools
In support of Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education), Gulf Medical University (GMU) organized the 18th Annual Medical, Art, and Science Exhibition (MASE), engaging over 3,000 high school students from 96 schools across the UAE. The hybrid event featured more than 1,400 exhibits in six categories—Project, Poster, Painting, Music, Poetry, and Business Ideas—encouraging creativity, innovation, and scientific inquiry among students in grades 10–12.
MASE served as a platform for experiential and interdisciplinary learning, bridging art, science, and entrepreneurship while nurturing critical thinking and innovation. Winners received certificates and training opportunities from GMU’s Center for Advanced Simulation in Healthcare, supporting youth skill development and future career readiness. Through this initiative, GMU continues to promote inclusive, equitable, and high-quality education, inspiring the next generation of healthcare and science professionals.

World Autism Awareness Month
On April 29, 2025, Semester 8 students of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Gulf Medical University (GMU) organized a community engagement initiative at the Salma Special Education Services Center, Ajman. The visit aimed to raise awareness about autism and early childhood care, aligning with the global theme for Autism Awareness 2025 — “Advancing Neurodiversity and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
This initiative emphasized the role of future healthcare professionals in promoting inclusive education, community outreach, and early intervention practices. It reinforced GMU’s commitment to fostering social responsibility and awareness among students while supporting SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through education and advocacy for neurodiverse individuals.

World Health Day Community Engagement Report
On World Health Day 2025, the College of Nursing at Gulf Medical University participated in an Interprofessional Education (IPE) community engagement event organized by the College of Medicine at Nesto Hypermarket, Ajman. The outreach enabled students to apply their knowledge in a real-world setting, promoting public health awareness among families, mothers, and children. Health education stations focused on antenatal care, child health, and gynecological well-being, with interactive demonstrations—especially on hand hygiene—making learning engaging and practical. The initiative supported SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education) by integrating experiential learning with community service.
GMU-IVPN Student Club Conducts a Community Engagement Activity on STDs at JSS Private School in Dubai
GMU-IVPN Student Club under the College of Pharmacy conducted an awareness session on sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) for grades 9 and 11 students at JSS Private School, Dubai. The initiative aimed to enhance health literacy and promote responsible behavior among youth through interactive education on STD prevention and safe health practices. This activity supports SDG 4 (Quality Education) by fostering knowledge and awareness essential for sustainable well-being and aligns with SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) through preventive health education.

Student-Led Sports Physiotherapy Initiative: Hands-On Learning at Celebrity Cricket League (CCL), Sharjah Cricket Stadium – A Community Engagement Experience
Physiotherapy students from the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) program, College of Health Sciences (CoHS), Gulf Medical University (GMU), provided physiotherapy first aid services to participants of the Celebrity Cricket League (CCL) held at Sharjah Cricket Stadium from February 23–25, 2024, in coordination with Thumbay University Hospital.

Exploring Authentic Sustainability in Marketing: Industry Insights for Future Healthcare Leaders
Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare, GMU, organized an interactive session on May 5, 2025, for second-year BSc Healthcare Management and Economics students enrolled in Principles of Marketing (PRM 204). The session enhanced students’ understanding of ethical marketing and sustainability, focusing on key topics such as greenwashing awareness, accurate sustainability communication, and strategies for integrating genuine sustainable practices in marketing. This initiative supported experiential learning and critical thinking, advancing SDG 4: Quality Education.
· Empowering the Next Generation of Healthcare Leaders: Guest Lecture by Mr. Abhik Gupta
On April 25, 2025, the Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare, Gulf Medical University, hosted a virtual session via Zoom for BSc. Healthcare Management and Economics (HME) students, featuring Mr. Abhik Gupta, a veteran strategy consultant with over 34 years of global experience. Mr. Gupta shared insights on sustainable operational models, market-entry strategies, and real-world case studies from his leadership roles at Nielsen, MMJS Consulting, and FT Consulting. The interactive session enhanced students’ understanding of sustainability and strategic thinking in healthcare, directly supporting SDG 4: Quality Education by linking classroom learning with professional expertise.

Dr. Sudhir Rana, Associate Professor at Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare, Gulf Medical University, participated as a distinguished panelist, sharing valuable insights on advancing academic research and publication quality. Gulf Medical University Career Fair 2024 Draws 3,500 Visitors, Connects 60+ Companies with its Healthcare Talent Pool
The GMU Career Fair 2024 directly contributes to SDG 4 (Quality Education) by providing experiential learning and skill development opportunities that prepare students for successful careers. It also aligns with SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through active promotion of employment pathways and partnerships with the healthcare industry. The fair empowered students and alumni by linking education with workforce readiness, fostering a sustainable bridge between learning and professional achievement.

Gulf Medical University ranks 101-200 in Quality Education of Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2023
GMU is proud to announce its substantial leap forward in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for 2023. In a significant achievement, Gulf Medical University has been ranked between 101 and 200 in both the “Quality Education” and “Health & Wellbeing” sustainable development goals on a global scale.
